Bernadette founded the practice in 1993 as ‘Bernadette Kelly Hand Therapy’ with the vision to provide quality and accessible hand therapy services. She worked collaboratively alongside Professor Michael Leung, Mr Simon Donahue, and Mr Stephen Tham. The clinic has continued to maintain strong surgeon, GP and community relationships ever since.
We are conveniently located onsite at Mulgrave Private Hospital. Our rooms can be found within the new Day Surgery Centre building on level G.
Hand Therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the Upper Limb. It involves evaluation and testing to assess the injured limb and design of a specific treatment program. A variety of treatment techniques can be used. It helps patients regain maximum use of the hand/upper limb after an injury, surgery or onset of a disease.
Hand Therapy costs are not covered by Medicare (unless you have an EPC Plan from your GP, where a proportion of costs may be covered) but may be rebateable under Private Health Cover Extras as “Occupational Therapy”. Clients need to contact their Private Health fund to check on their entitlement to “Occupational Therapy” and to establish the level of cover involved.
DVA, TAC and Workcover patients can access hand therapy treatments and products with no out of pocket expenses providing they have a current referral from their treating doctor and details regarding their claim.
